Anger is a powerful and often misunderstood emotion. In this experiential workshop, participants will explore what lies beneath anger and gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between anger, stress and our underlying needs.
Rather than viewing anger simply as an emotion to control or suppress, the workshop approaches it as a signal that can provide valuable information about what is happening beneath the surface. Participants will be introduced to six common underlying causes of anger and explore the concept of “core stressors” – recurring patterns such as the need for control, pressure, approval, trust and prioritisation that can influence how we respond to challenging situations.
Through guided reflection and practical exercises, participants will have the opportunity to identify their own stress patterns, recognise the core stressors that may trigger their anger, and consider how these patterns can affect their behaviour, relationships and coaching practice.
The workshop is designed to be both psychologically informed and practical. It encourages self-awareness while providing participants with tools they can apply in their personal and professional lives. For coaches, developing a greater understanding of anger – both their own and that of their clients – can help create greater curiosity, empathy and awareness within the coaching relationship.
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- The aim is not to eliminate anger, but to understand its message and develop more conscious and constructive ways of responding to it.
- Identify the six main causes of anger and recognise how they may manifest in themselves and others.
- Explore the relationship between stress and anger and identify their own primary sources of stress.
- Understand the concept of core stressors and how they influence emotional responses and behaviour.
- Identify which core stressor(s) may be contributing to their own experiences of anger.
- Develop greater self-awareness and practical strategies for responding to these triggers more effectively.
